This year Rick Lawton has been busy. Phisto, a novel, is about a video game developer's tragicomic search for his partner through a cyberworld and San Francisco's Tenderloin. Rick also published a short story collection, Potpourri. The stories are are amusing and a few semi-biographical. Both works are available on Amazon and can be ordered through bookstores. Rick Lawton

The Rex. The Rex is a well-crafted novel pitting developers against the eccentric tenants of an old hotel in a gentrification battle in New York City in the early 1990s.

Rex Stories. A handful of stories about the difficult and changing lives of tenants of the Rex hotel.

Chasing Lazarus. A secretive man disappears leaving his truck near the Golden Gate Bridge. Did he die? Three people think he didn’t and try to find him in this fast-paced thriller.

Ron Schmidt

Once-Removed ... recounts Ron's conflicted journey as a gay youth, single father, recovering alcoholic, and Bay Area gay activist.

Sally Swope
